Group Counselling

Group counselling is suitable for those individuals who know each other via a working relationship, such as colleagues, students, trainees, etc., are unknown to each other but are seeking counselling for a shared issue such as an addiction, anxiety or eating disorder or wish to explore their feelings in a safe, confidential and therapeutic setting.

Benefits

Group counselling is the cheapest form of therapy as each individual shares the cost of the session between them.

Anna will explain the contract with each group member prior to the first session. This contract covers Direct Counselling UK’s confidentiality policy, legal obligations, the agreed frequency of therapy appointments and number of sessions.

At the first counselling session, you will have the opportunity to discuss what you think you will need to include within your group contract, such as each member’s commitment to attendance and the maintenance of confidentiality. You may also wish to share within the group what you hope to achieve from engaging in therapy.

Theoretical Approaches

Groups are usually made up of 4 – 6 individuals and depending on group size, therapy sessions usually last 2 to 2 ½ hours. Each client has a equal amount of time during the session to discuss their issue and can receive feedback from other group members.

Group counselling can be a safe place for you to explore your personal interactions and relationships with others and can help foster the giving and receiving of feedback.

Once registered, Anna will inform you when the next group will commence and appoint a counsellor who will facilitate the sessions. All of Direct Counselling UK’s group counsellors are trained to work with groups and have a variety of techniques at their disposal including psychodrama and art therapy.
