About Us

Direct Counselling UK is an established counselling service based in Nottingham, UK. We provide a wide range of counselling services, and have associations with fully qualified and accredited counsellors throughout the UK.

Back in 2007 when Direct Counselling UK was established, few websites existed that offered counselling information or resources online. Direct Counselling UK continues to deliver a comprehensive range of services and resources for you; whether you are seeking professional counselling, looking for quality training for your group or business, a trainee counsellor or practising counsellor, or just browsing for information. We provide direct access to face-to-face, telephone and online counselling, hold resources on different types of distress and counselling approaches and now run a blog and discussion board - all from one website and using clear, jargon-free language.

We work with individuals, couples and groups – so whatever your current situation or reason for seeking therapeutic support, you can be assured that help is at hand. Choosing Direct Counselling UK allows you to engage in a therapeutic, confidential service with a qualified, professional counsellor who will help you gain a deeper understanding of why you are seeking help.

You can choose how much or how little you wish to discuss in your therapy sessions – your choices will not be judged and your decisions will always be respected. Working in this way values your individuality and you can explore why you would like your life to be different and how this can be achieved.

Issues our counsellors regularly work with include depression, anxiety, work related stress, eating disorders, abuse, bereavement, self esteem, sexuality, trauma, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), addictions and loss.

How We Work

Our primary aim is to provide quality, accessible counselling care at the time when our clients need it most. With this in mind, we have developed a flexible range of services, which make it easy and affordable for anyone to receive the counselling they need, in a way most suited to their lifestyle.

Qualified Counsellors

All our counsellors are qualified and experienced professionals, and are registered members of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) or UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy).

Our counsellors have a wealth of experience and backgrounds and have worked with clients aged 8 — 70 years old. They have experience of providing counselling in a variety of settings such as mainstream and private statutory education, further and higher education and the workplace. Our associate counsellors have a variety of specialities and are trained in a range of Humanistic techniques. All of our counsellors are experienced in providing short term brief therapy. This extensive experience and knowledge is bought to the work you will do together.

Our associate counsellors are facilitated by Anna Graves. Anna has a broad range of experience ranging from corporate and workplace counselling to local authority schools and universities, as well as an established private practice. Anna is also an active associate member of Direct Counselling UK and provides counselling to clients.

Therapy Sessions

Your counsellor will work hard to develop an open, honest and trusting counselling relationship with you. They will seek to understand how things are for you and will help you look at your hopes and wishes, feelings, fears and anxieties.

Our associate counsellors are trained in a number of different counselling techniques to help you to develop understanding, insight, awareness and solutions to the questions that you bring. These interventions can include a number of therapeutic skills in addition to the ‘talking therapy’ including art therapy, sand tray therapy, image therapy and narrative therapy. you are free to choose what you think will work for you and will not be directed towards a particular way of working.

Professional Membership

Our counsellors work to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy (updated February 2010). They will maintain confidentiality and a non-judgemental approach at all times.
