Privacy Policy
Direct Counselling UK takes every care to protect client confidentiality in accordance with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) national guidelines. These guidelines serve to protect your confidential material and ensure the integrity and professionalism of your counsellor. We suggest that you read these prior to making a decision about counselling.
Direct Counselling UK will not usually release records to or write letters for a third party on your behalf. However, upon receipt of a subpoena from a judge in a UK court of law, your counsellor will be bound by British Law to release your records. It is therefore important that you let your counsellor know of any impending court case.
Each counsellor receives supervision from a qualified supervisor in accordance with BACP guidelines. This supervisory relationship ensures that your counsellor is providing a professional, quality service. Throughout this process, your counsellor will always protect your identity.
Confidentiality
Any discussions during counselling sessions will be strictly confidential. However, there are certain exceptional circumstances in which information may be disclosed to a third party. If a counsellor receives information regarding money laundering or a proposed or actual act of terrorism, he/she is required by British Law to share this information with the police. Likewise, if you tell your counsellor about any intent to harm yourself or another person, he/she will breach confidentiality. Any personal data retained by your counsellor is kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Direct Counselling UK abides by the following acts under British Law: Data Protection Act 1998, Distance Selling Regulations 2000, Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
