Loss

Feelings of loss can be experienced in relation to a diverse range of life areas including employment, lifestyle, health, family or close relationship. Feelings of grief may arise and sufferers may experience helplessness, increased stress, depression or anxiety in their everyday life.

Loss can sometimes be prolonged, as in the case of a divorce or kidnapping.

Therapy is often very useful for helping sufferers understand the changes that occur as a result of loss. These may include changes to status or role.

If you or someone you know is suffering

If you or someone you know is struggling with loss, they may also be exhibiting signs of increased stress, raised anxiety, panic or depression.

A counsellor or psychotherapist can help the sufferer to understand changes to role or status that occur and manage the transitional stages that follow loss. Medication may be considered if the feelings of anxiety or panic are overwhelming.
