Group Counselling

Group counselling is suitable for those individuals who know each other via a working relationship, such as colleagues, students, trainees, etc. or are unknown to each other but are seeking counselling for a shared issue such as an addiction, anxiety or eating disorder and wish to explore their feelings in a safe, confidential and therapeutic setting.

Group counselling is the cheapest form of therapy as each individual shares the cost of the session between them.

The counsellor explains the contract with the group on the first session. This contract covers the counsellor’s confidentiality policy, legal obligations, agreed frequency of therapy appointments and number of sessions.

The contract may also include what each client wishes to achieve from engaging in therapy.

All group counselling clients are briefed on the commitment to attend each session and the maintenance of confidentiality between them. Depending on group size, therapy sessions usually last 2 to 2 ½ hours and each client has a equal amount of time during the session to discuss their issue.
