Educational Issues
The transition between home, school, college or university can be an exciting one, although at times this can be difficult to manage. Being away from the parental home and in new situations with new people can raise levels of anxiety and mean that the ability to concentrate on study is undermined.
Sometimes issues that have arisen in the past but have not been dealt with appropriately can return, especially when faced with new situations. How manageable this transition is can vary from one individual to another, but solutions and strategies to help through this period of change can be developed which can ease anxiety and create new insights and understandings.
Talking through issues with a therapist can help acknowledge the problem and develop skills to approach concerns. Issues that have arisen in the past may arise again when in a new situation, and a counsellor can help work through why these have returned and how they can be resolved.
If you or someone you know is suffering
It is important that help is sought at the earliest opportunity, as this will ensure a support package can be put in place and extensions for assignments or coursework can be negotiated.
It is important that individuals do not suffer alone and no problem is too big or too small for help. Feelings of isolation can occur especially around perceived roles and identity; and these can be discussed and explored in depth with a therapist to gain a deeper understanding of the self.
